Valparai is a Taluk and hill station in Coimbatore district of Tamil Nadu, India. It is located 3,500 feet above sea level on the Anamalai Hills range of the Western Ghats, at a distance of 100 km from Coimbatore and 65 km from Pollachi. There are 40 hairpin bends on the way to Valparai from Azhiyar. While major portions of the land is owned by private tea companies, large forest areas continue to be out of bounds. The Government of Tamil Nadu in collaboration with ITDC initiated Tourism promotion through infrastructure development including Resort hotels and Amusement parks to attract tourists. As of 2011, the town had a population of 70,859.
Monkey Falls - Aliyar
Monkey Falls is about 65 kilometers (40 mi) from Coimbatore. Refreshing Natural Water Falls about 6 km from Azhiyar Dam. Monkey Falls is located on road connecting Pollachi and Valparai. An interesting trek route at the Monkey Falls; a linear stretch of evergreen forests surrounded by rocky cliffs, is available and regular guided treks are conducted during favorable season. Prior request should be given to the Tamil Nadu Forest Department headquarters at Pollachi before a fortnight. Monkey falls is an ideal place for little children and adults to take a bath.
Nirar Dam - Valparai
There are two dams the upper nirar and Lower Nirar Dam. As the dam is located amidst thick jungle wild animals can be located. The thick forest and greenary adds more scenic to this dam. This dam is built for multipurpose project such as irrigation, Hydro electricity production. There is a waterfalls near the dam which resembles the Cascade.
Chinna Kallar - Valparai
Chinnakallar is geographically an important place. It is about 26 km east of Valparai. It is known as Cherrapunji of Tamil Nadu. It is the second place in receiving maximum rainfall next to Cherrapunji. The hanging bridge is built across the falls is full of enchantment and thrill. This area always found wet and misty. Chinnakallar is full of greenish dense forest with tall majestic trees which gives a pleasant nature. It has the falls which sounds like a roaring lion.
Balaji Temple - Valparai
"Balaji Temple is located at 10kms from valpari, it is owned by peria Karamalai tea industries which is beautiful temple where the people can spend some time with peaceful mind. In this temple poojas was performed regularly like Tirupathi Balaji temple. A children’s park is made for the peaceful family trip to temple. Vehicles are not allowed to the entrance of balaji temple, nearly 0.5kms distance should be taken a present walk in to a narrow hill".
